DESCRIPTION

Knysna 500 Owner's Version

2013 Knysna 500 Owner's Version — "WIZ"
Lavranos-designed bluewater catamaran | 15 kWh lithium + 3.4 kW solar | Two owners | Lying Pittwater, Sydney

15.24m (50'), 1.22m draft (4'), 8m beam (26'), 15 kWh (1200AH @ 12v) of lithium, 600 L fuel capacity, 600 L water capacity and a Rainman watermaker: WIZ is a step-on, fill-the-tanks-and-go world cruiser — or the best coastal cruising apartment you could dream of.

Built by the Knysna Yacht Company in South Africa, the 500 model is a hand-laid foam-sandwich catamaran with every bulkhead glassed in — no screwed-in furniture doing structural work, less creaks underway, and hull and deck interiors faired and finished rather than hidden behind trim panels. The escape hatches sit high and inboard of the forward showers, well above the waterline, where they also serve as ventilation that can be left open in rain.

WIZ has only had two owners. The first was in partnership with the Knysna factory, and she served as the company's boat-show yacht. The current owners come from a family of boatbuilders and have been cruising the world for more than twenty years. That experience is visible in every system aboard.

What separates WIZ from the other Knysna 500s on the market is the custom helm cover and the integrated tender lift system. Care was taken to carry the lines of the boat through into the solar arch, the helm cover and the rigid side curtains. Nothing is simply bolted on. Lavranos's original lines are intact.

"The best prepared and presented boat of her category I have had the privilege to list." — Rod Waterhouse, DBY Boat Sales

All importation duty has been paid.

Why WIZ stands out

Feature and Why it matters

  • Custom bridgedeck & integrated davit system  -  Unique among Knysna 500s on the market. Push-button tender launch and retrieval, with the boat's original lines carried through — not a bolt-on arch.
  • 15 kWh lithium + 3.4 kW solar + 680 A of alternator capacity  -  Luxury off-grid living. Fridges, freezers, induction cooking, watermaker and air-conditioning without a generator.
  • 1.21 m draft  -   Queensland sandbars, the Whitsundays, the Bahamas —  anchorages most 50-footers read about.
  • Premium sails and standing rigging, 2020–2026  -  Calibre Sails (NZ) main, genoa and gennaker; standing rigging replaced 2023; Profurl electric furler (2023).
  • Owners from a boatbuilding family, 20+ years cruising   -  Systems chosen for reliability and serviceability, maintained to a standard a survey will confirm.
  • Coppercoat applied 2022  -  Three epoxy barrier coats plus five coats Coppercoat, extra at the waterline and leading edges.
