DESCRIPTION

Bavaria 50 Cruiser Holiday Limited Edition MISS ARTHUR is exclusively for sale with DBY Boat Sales.

This 2009 Bavaria 50 Cruiser is a well-regarded sailing yacht produced by Bavaria Yachts, a prominent German boat manufacturer known for combining quality craftsmanship with practical design. This model belongs to the Cruiser line, which emphasizes comfort, performance, and versatility. Below is an overview based on general knowledge about the Bavaria 50 Cruiser from that era, focusing on the 2009 model year.

Design and Construction

The Bavaria 50 Cruiser was designed by Farr Yacht Design, a renowned American firm, in collaboration with BMW Group Designworks USA, which contributed to its sleek and modern aesthetic. Launched as part of Bavaria’s updated Cruiser series, the 2009 model reflects a balance between cruising comfort and sailing performance. The hull is constructed from hand-laid fiberglass (GRP - glass-reinforced plastic) with a cored structure for added strength and reduced weight, Coremat below the waterline and Airex foam above. The deck features teak in the cockpit and sidedecks, enhancing both durability and elegance.

With an overall length of approximately 15 metres, a beam of around 4.5 metres, and a draft of 1.85m, this yacht offers a spacious and stable platform. The moderately deep keel significantly improves upwind performance.

Performance

The Bavaria 50 Cruiser is equipped with a fractional rig, featuring a Selden mast with roller furling mainsail, paired with a roller genoa. This setup provides ease of handling for cruising while maintaining good performance for more spirited sailing. The yacht’s one rudder which is connected to the two wheels at the helm enhance control when heeled, and its sail area-to-displacement ratio gives good light-wind performance compared to similar boats which is a nice bonus on a big heavy yacht.

Under power, the 2009 Bavaria 50 Cruiser comes with a Volvo Penta D2-75 engine, a 75-horsepower diesel engine with a saildrive and this one has just turned over 2,280 hours which is remarkably low. The immaculate Volvo provides reliable motoring speeds of 7.6 to 8.5 knots at cruising RPM (around 2,200) and up to 9 knots at full throttle, making it capable of fast passages when required and escaping rough seas or manoeuvring in tight quarters. A bow thruster is included, aiding docking for a boat of this size.

Interior and Accommodations

The interior of the 2009 Bavaria 50 Cruiser is a highlight, designed for comfort and practicality. “Miss Arthur” features a four cabin layout, accommodating 6 to 10 berths. A generous V berth with queen sized bed and private ensuite is forward, 2 private enclosed aft symmetrical queen cabins and a port side private double bunk cabin is amidships. The large salon table is able to drop down and become an additional queen sized bed when required. The saloon is very spacious, with a U-shaped galley, a large dining table with U-shaped seating, and ample natural light from multiple opening portholes and hatches. Wood finishes throughout, give it a warm, inviting feel, very much like home and typical of Bavaria.

A generous owner’s cabin forward with an ensuite head, and two symmetrical aft cabins sharing a private enclosed head to starboard with the ensuite on the port side has been cleverly converted to a brilliant utility/workroom. The galley is well-equipped for extended cruising, with a stove, oven, dual refrigeration, and plenty of counter space. Headroom is generous (around 6’4” or more), and ventilation is excellent thanks to numerous opening hatches and ports.

On Deck

The deck layout is clean and functional, with a large cockpit featuring twin steering wheels for unobstructed access to the stern and good visibility forward. The cockpit includes long bench seats with cushions, a fixed table with folding leaves, and high coamings for safety and comfort. A fixed swim platform at the transom adds convenience for swimming or boarding a dinghy. The wide beam provides stability at anchor, and the deck gear—electric winches, lines, and controls—is positioned for easy handling by a small crew.

Sailing Characteristics

Reviews from the period, such as those from *Cruising World* or *Canadian Boating*, describe the Bavaria 50 Cruiser as a responsive and well-balanced yacht. In light winds (9 knots true), it can achieve speeds of nearly 7 knots on a close reach, tacking through about 85 degrees. Its stability is notable, with a design that limits heeling to 20° in 15-knot winds, delaying the need to reef until 20-22 knots. That offers a spirited yet manageable ride for cruisers, with smooth steering and a light helm feel.

The 2009 Bavaria 50 Cruiser is a versatile, comfortable, and stylish yacht that caters to families, couples, or syndication groups looking for a reliable cruising experience. Its combination of German engineering, thoughtful design, and solid sailing performance makes it a standout in the 50-foot category.
