The Evolution of Brig Rigid Inflatable Boats

Many boat owners may not realize the significant technological advancements that have gone into Brig rigid inflatable boats. Brig, Europe’s leading inflatable brand, has consistently pushed boundaries, as seen in their all-new Navigator range.

A Nod to History: From 19th Century Sailing to Modern RIBs

While modern boats like Brig RIBs prioritize efficiency and innovation, it’s fascinating to consider their evolution from 19th century vessels. Unlike today’s RIBs, which are easy to handle, historic ships often required a large crew to operate, especially square rigged vessels designed for long voyages. These sailing ships of the 19th century were engineering marvels of their time, setting the stage for the streamlined and practical designs we enjoy today.

Introducing the Brig Navigator Range

The Navigator range is Brig’s first entirely new series in six years and is a development of the popular Falcon range. At first glance, the Navigator boasts a distinctly masculine look, available in rich black or brilliant white. Features include:

  • Handy storage lockers incorporated into the seating.
  • Rear locker seating with a backrest.
  • An offset console, electric horn, and stainless steel Targa arch.

These additions ensure practicality and comfort, aligning with the technological leap from square rigged vessels that required a large crew to today’s advanced RIBs.

Performance and Versatility

The Navigator range includes three models: the 530, 570, and 610, ranging from 5.3 to 6.1 meters in length. For example, the Navigator 570 is:

  • 5.7 meters long with a 2.3-meter beam.
  • Equipped with five air chambers for buoyancy, safely seating 10 passengers.
  • Powered by a 120-horsepower engine with an inbuilt 98-litre fuel tank.
  • Weighing just 380 kg, it can easily be towed by a typical four-cylinder car, making it a practical option for boating enthusiasts.

Safety and Comfort Features

The Navigator’s design ensures safety and comfort, even in rough weather. The console has been moved forward, allowing for two jockey seats where your legs can act as shock absorbers. This innovation is a far cry from the 19th century ships, where stability and comfort were secondary to sheer manpower.

Affordable Innovation

Despite its impressive features, the Navigator range is priced competitively, sitting between Brig’s Eagle and Falcon ranges. This accessibility ensures more boat owners can experience the cutting-edge innovation Brig brings to the market.

Market Leader in RIB Development

Brig remains a leader in RIB development, consistently setting the standard for innovation. Unlike the square rigged ships of the past that required a large crew, Brig RIBs are designed for convenience and ease of use, making them a top choice for modern boating enthusiasts.

Coming Soon to Australia

First launched at the Southampton Boat Show in the UK, the Navigator range will arrive in Australia in October, just in time for summer. With several firm orders already placed, this series is set to make waves in the Australian market.
