The 65th annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) took place from 30 October to 3 November 2024. It marked a landmark event as it welcomed Australia’s largest-ever delegation to the world’s premier in-water boat show. Hosted in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The show attracted over 100,000 visitors from across the globe. Showcasing some of the world’s most impressive superyachts and marine innovations.

Founded in 1959 FLIBS has grown into a leading international platform for the superyacht industry. Featuring over three million square feet of exhibition space spread across seven locations. Each year, the event draws thousands of industry professionals and boating enthusiasts. Eager to explore the latest developments in marine technology, luxury yachts, and tourism experiences.

This year, a key highlight was the strong representation from Australia’s superyacht sector. In a dynamic collaboration, Superyacht Australia (SYA) and AIMEX teamed up with Tourism Fiji and Tahiti Tourisme. To present a comprehensive showcase of the superyacht and marine offerings available across Australia and the South Pacific. The Australian pavilion gave visitors a detailed look into the diverse cruising opportunities and world-class products and services in the region’s maritime industry.

The Australian contingent at the show included top-tier exhibitors such as Aurora Yacht Logistics, City of Gold Coast, Coral Sea Marina, Carbon Game Towers International, Eighth Degree South, Illumi Vases, Marine Air Flow International, Marine Structures, Melanesian Luxury Yachts, Southport Yacht Club, Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef, The Superyacht People and The Textile and Design Studio. Together, they highlighted the range of offerings available in the Australian and South Pacific superyacht sectors.

SYA’s presence was further bolstered by the participation of Tourism Fiji partners, including Port Denarau Marina, Yacht Help Fiji, and Nawi Island Marina, alongside Tahiti Tourisme partners such as Tahiti Private Expeditions and Seal Superyachts Tahiti. A notable attraction within the Fiji section was the daily cultural dance performed by Fijian warriors, followed by a traditional kava tasting, providing an immersive experience for attendees.

One of the most significant moments of the show was Australia’s Gold Coast Trade Mission, where seven Gold Coast-based companies— all members of SYA and AIMEX— showcased their exceptional products and services to the international audience. This initiative not only celebrated the Gold Coast’s growing influence in the global superyacht market but also reinforced the Sister City relationship between Fort Lauderdale and the Gold Coast. Additionally, the Gold Coast served as a Silver Sponsor at the International Superyacht Society (ISS) Awards Night, further strengthening its ties to the international superyacht community.

Australian companies made a strong impact on the show’s floor. Riviera led the charge with the display of 11 boats, marking the launch of their 6000th vessel, a significant milestone for the iconic Australian yacht manufacturer.

The launch event was attended by Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, with the enduring connection between the two cities being underscored. Other notable exhibitors included Maritimo, which showcased three vessels, and Carbon Game Towers, which featured a high-tech tower on one of the displayed boats. Additionally, Muir Engineering and VEEM were also present, collaborating with international partners to promote their cutting-edge marine technology.

Another key achievement for SYA was its deepened collaboration with the U.S. Superyacht Association (USSA).

SYA featured prominently at the USSA Destinations Luncheon, and David Good, CEO of Superyacht Australia, received the inaugural International Industry Partner Award at the USSA Annual General Meeting. This recognition highlighted Good’s significant contributions to the global superyacht industry. Throughout the event, SYA also leveraged the USSA’s Sky Lounge, providing additional networking opportunities for members and visitors alike.

The International SeaKeepers Society hosted a memorable SeaKeepers Gala Dinner. Where the organization celebrated its efforts in advancing marine conservation in the South Pacific. The evening honored Guy Harvey, 2024’s SeaKeeper of the Year, and Shireen Rahimi, the recipient of the 2024 NextGen Award. SYA looks forward to continuing its partnership with SeaKeepers in support of global marine conservation initiatives.

The show’s final highlight was the South Pacific Superyachting Stand Networking Drinks. Which featured a selection of fine Australian wines. This social event provided an excellent opportunity for industry professionals to connect and exchange ideas in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

Reflecting on the success of the show, David Good, CEO of Superyacht Australia and AIMEX, remarked. “Fort Lauderdale is an important platform for our members, offering invaluable opportunities. For both superyacht destination marketing and showcasing Australian marine manufacturing. The presence of the Australian boxing kangaroo on our stand. It is a reminder of the strong reputation Australia holds in the global marine industry.”

With its strategic alliances, innovative showcases, and commitment to fostering international relationships. Australia’s participation in FLIBS 2024 further solidified its position as a key player in the global superyacht and marine sectors.
