Classic wooden sloop in outstanding condition, full of historic charm and practical usability. Built in Montague Bay, Tasmania by William Cuthbertson, Benecia was originally rigged as a schooner until conversion to sloop rig in 1946. She competed in Sydney-Hobart races in 1947 (13th) and 1950 (10th). Extensively rebuilt and refurbished over the past 25 years, including a new interior, new decks / house glassed over – structurally in first class order. New decks and teak toerails, house / deck glassed over in 2003.
Cared for by the same loving owners since 1987 and maintained without regard to expense - Benicia is in superb structural condition.
Entered on the Australian National Historic Vessels register.
A true classic yacht with impeccable pedigree and provenance, presented in excellent structural condition. Having been professionally restored and maintained with no regard to expense, Benicia would make a fantastic day-sailer, classic yacht racer and has enough comfort for some overnight cruising.
