For a yacht that can travel to far cruising waters at 90kph this boat has surprising living space and is a joy to sail. The Cruising Rig version of the Ross 780 Mk3 she is set up for short-handed sailing and features an "extra crew member" – a tiller autopilot. Wardrobe consists of a mainsail, three headsails, a spinnaker and pole.
The layout will accommodate a family and there is more than adequate space for a couple on extended cruising. The forward Vee berth is 2.2m long with a skylight hatch and overhead storage, while the king size aft berth offers a huge 2.1m x 2m sleeping area, sitting headroom with reading lights, overhead shelves and three opening ports.
The head has a TMC electric toilet and doors for privacy; there is also space for a porta-loo in the Vee berth cabin. Sockets for a 12V camp shower are provided in the head and outside in the cockpit – great for rinsing off after a swim.
The Galley has a sink with hand pump drawing from the 100L water tank, a built-in ice box and two burner "Maxie" metho stove. This is complemented by a very efficient Magma Marine LPG BBQ/Burner which mounts to a cockpit stern rail when in use. The Saloon has two 1.7m long bench seats with storage under, backrests housing two-level shelving and space for a 32L Engel fridge/freezer under the hinged companion way step. With 1.8m of headroom in the saloon, most can stand comfortably and four large opening port lights provide good ventilation. Lights in the Saloon/Galley, head and Vee/aft berths are LEDs.
12V power is supplied by two 40W solar panels plus outboard charging when motoring, feeding to two 90 Ah AGM batteries with "smart" regulator, battery switch and switchboard. Instruments include a Raymarine Bidata log/sounder, GME VHF radio, GME FM/AM/CD player, compass and the autopilot.
'WOMPOO' has served as a comfortable "caravan" on the road to cruising waters from central QLD to Tasmania and is a stable tow behind a 4.2L turbo diesel. The trailer has just had a complete overhaul service by the manufacturer (Sep 2011).
Housed since new in an enclosed shed west of the Great Dividing Range, both yacht and trailer are in very good condition.
Non-smoking owners, with no pets onboard.
