When you consider that Australia is the world's biggest island, it comes as no surprise that it's home to the new Maritimo Offshore, one of the world's finest long-range luxury cruisers.

The Aussie boat building legend Bill Barry-Cotter sometimes jokes that it takes 40 years to build a Maritimo. In all seriousness, he means that it's the culmination of his lifetimes work. A career that's made him Australia's most awarded boat builder and renowned offshore racing champion.
In designing the Maritimo, Bill simply created the boat he had always wanted for himself. Having seen the best and worst of thousands of ocean-going vessels, he's picked the features he admires and added a few of his own. For example, the fully enclosed walk around decks, outdoor island BBQ and beautifully styled timber and stainless steel stairwell have Bill's fingerprints all over them.

About midway between the heavenly Great Barrier Reef and the hellish Tasman Sea is Queensland's Gold Coast. For aficionados, the Maritimo has a variable deadrise planing hull with engines mounted forward and fuel tanks positioned amid ships. Dubbed the ‘Baby Maritimo’, this sleek, affordable and extremely seaworthy vessel has been an instant hit with nine now sold, including one that is under production and will be dispatched to Singapore next month.
"We will have boats ranging from the new Maritimo built Mustang 32 sports cruiser right through to the Maritimo M73 which is 81.5 feet long so the line up is impressive," said Mr Barry-Cotter.
The event will be Maritimo Offshore racing’s first foray outside Australia since the team’s campaign in the 2009 Class 1 World Championship.
Adaptable for sportfishing, family weekends away or long-distance cruising, the Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible comfortably sleeps five in three separate cabins.
“We are offering the incentive on only nine boats,” he said. “These demonstration boats are all 2011 models and have been fully maintained by the Maritimo factory engineers.

It’s easy to get up to the Aegean 60’s flybridge: there’s an internal staircase on the starboard side, just aft of the lower helm.
“The name change is designed to reflect our attitude as being the dealership with real personal service,” said Dealer Principal Ormonde Britton.
Like the 60, the Maritimo 52 is a genuine cruising boat the style of which many people have been waiting for.
The tanks hold 5700lt of fuel, enough to get you from the Gold Coast to Sydney and back and then turn around and head down South again.
You can spend summer in Pittwater, then cruise up to the Whitsundays for winter without having to stop five times to refuel.
During the show Maritimo entertained a large contingent of dealers and customers from the USA and the result was encouraging with orders for the M48 Motoryacht, Mustang 50 and 440 Offshore Convertible.
The new style Motoryachts are a continuation of the evolution of the famed line of Maritimos with their safe walk-around decks, internal staircases, large open saloons and aft galleys.
Gold Coast luxury boat builder Maritimo is actively promoting the system to its clients and now reports that close to 40 percent of all orders for its shaft-drive boats now have Twin Disc EJS as a specified option.
Peter Jenkins, the company’s national sales manager, said the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is always high on the Maritimo agenda.

According to Luke Durman, Marketing Director for Maritimo, about 40 percent of all shaft drive boats now being built at the company’s factory will be delivered with Twin Disc EJS installed.

Bill Barry-Cotter, founder and CEO of luxury boat builder Maritimo, has announced that the company has purchased the assets of Mustang Marine.
At the heart of EJS is a joystick installed beside the standard engine controls at the boat’s helm with optional joystick stations available for other locations.
“We are excited about the developments at Maritimo and I have ordered new 470 and 440 Offshore Convertibles,” he said. “I think the 440 in particular is going to be a great boat for our market."

Mustang has focused on medium sized boats up until this point, with the opportunity to expand into the large boat segment a step the company is very excited about.

Ormonde said he joined Maritimo in 2005 at the time the company launched its 52 Cruising Motoryacht and was preparing plans for the first Offshore Convertible.
The on-water display will also include Maritimo M48 and M52 Motoryachts and a 550 Offshore Convertible sportfisher.
With an internal staircase to the enclosed bridge, aft helm position and a large fishing-friendly cockpit, the 470 Offshore Convertible is aimed at a market for people who love both cruising and the thrill of big game fishing.

David has joined the Sydney team a week before the opening of the Sydney International Boat Show after five years in the Sydney sales offices of rival Riviera.
The Sydney display includes two brand new models. As well as the magnificent 73, Maritimo is displaying the Aegean 50 Enclosed for the first time.
However, the A60 Enclosed is not simply an A60 Aegean with a roof, it is a quite different altogether: “It has a completely new layout,” said Bill Barry-Cotter.
Aussie Boat Sales’ Scott O’Hare said the C60 performed extremely well in rough, choppy conditions, which made it an ideal vessel for the unpredictable waters of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
